Religious textual artefacts are far more than material carriers of religious traditions. As material, visual, and ritual objects, they give tangible form to the sacred, shape religious practice, and contribute to the formation of cultural identities. Their production, design, use, and reception offer new perspectives on the interplay of materiality, ritual, aesthetics, and religious knowledge.
This peer-reviewed yearbook provides an interdisciplinary forum for the study of religious textual artefacts. It explores manuscripts, books, scrolls, inscriptions, and related textual artefacts as media of religious communication, examining their material, visual, ritual, and theological dimensions alongside the cultural practices and processes through which religious authority and sacredness are constructed, negotiated, transmitted, and transformed.
The series fosters interdisciplinary dialogue across the humanities, cultural and social sciences, as well as related fields, while encouraging interreligious and transcultural perspectives on religious textual cultures. It welcomes innovative contributions that transcend established disciplinary boundaries and develop new approaches to the materiality, visuality, rituality, and sacrality of religious textual artefacts.
